Project Overview

Designed with sustainability at its core, this award-winning Dayboro home combines rammed earth walls with straw bale construction to achieve an impressive 9.5-star energy rating. Wrapped around a central courtyard, the home opens to the north, maximising natural light, passive solar gain, and expansive views while creating sheltered outdoor living spaces.

The rammed earth walls provide excellent thermal mass, helping to regulate indoor temperatures throughout the year and contributing to the home's outstanding environmental performance. A finalist in the 2010 BPN Sustainability Awards, the project was also featured in Nick Hollo's Warm House, Cool House as an example of innovative, climate-responsive residential design.
