Project Overview

A detailed construction for a large home in South Brisbane, organised around a 6.6m-high rammed earth wall that forms the central core of the house and runs from inside to outside. The architect described the finished earth as "travertine-like."

The monumental wall is pierced by numerous carefully placed cut-outs. The home received a Commendation at the 2020 Australian Institute of Architects Brisbane Regional Awards, with the jury citing the rammed earth directly: the wall "anchors the spaces to the ground plane, whilst carefully considered apertures are carved to pass through… offering a delicate display of light and shadow."
